About Us

ReadHowYouWant.com and its sister company, Objective Systems Pty Ltd (both privately-held Australian companies), were founded by Christopher Stephen, an Australian living in Sydney, Australia. These companies grew out of experiments and research done by Stephen to help his sister to read more easily after she was afflicted by Multiple Sclerosis. The research (outlined on page 10) shows that a new publishing technology was needed. Objective Systems Pty Ltd was formed by Stephen to develop the technology. The research and development was supported by the Australian and the NSW State Governments through the awarding of competitive grants and awards. Patents have been applied for the technology. ReadHowYouWant.com is the company commercializing the technology.

Prior to this, Stephen founded Computer Law Services Pty Ltd (CLS) in 1981 with the late Howard Schreiber, the senior partner of the Sydney based international law firm, Mallesons Stephen Jaques. CLS was a pioneer electronic publisher that produced large, accurate and highly value added databases of Australian and British law using SGML, the forerunner of XML. It was sold to Thomson Publishing, the Canadian owners of West Publishing, in the 1990s.

Stephen and Schreiber also founded Lawpoint Pty Ltd in 1983. Lawpoint provided online transactional information to lawyers and other professionals. Lawpoint formed a strategic partnership with Telstra, the Australian phone company; Lawpoint was also sold to Thomson Publishing in the 1990s.

Stephen has degrees in Science (Math and Physics), Economics and Law from the University of Sydney.
